Sixteenth Missions Trip to Jamaica
Cross Country Evangelism just wrapped up its 16th missions trip to the island of Jamaica, the Caribbean jewel, from January 6-27, 2026. The outreach took place with six evangelist preachers from New Hampshire, New York, Virginia, Missouri, and the United Kingdom laboring together. This mission began in 2009 when Mike Stockwell and Robert Gray met, decided to join efforts during the New England winter months, and looked for a place where they could continue proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Their first Jamaica trip followed in January 2010, when they spent a month declaring biblical truth twice a day in Montego Bay. Over the years, believers from across the United States and other countries have joined them, with as many as 24 Christians laboring in a single year to share the gospel with the people of Jamaica.
Why Jamaica?
Jamaica is a vibrant, culturally rich, and beautiful country filled with warm and helpful people, yet it is also steeped in many religions and cultic influences. The island, with a population of about 2.83 million, needs the truth of the gospel preached in its streets just like every other nation in the world. This year's team labored in Montego Bay, Falmouth, Ocho Rios, Negril, and Lucea. Along the way they spoke with people from every walk of life: young and old, men and women, boys and girls, religious people, pagans, professing Christians, Seventh Day Adventists, Oneness Pentecostals, Rastafarians, Yeshua Only adherents, Hebrew Israelites, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and others.
Openness to Conversation and Literature
Even though the island is filled with religious groups and false religion, Cross Country Evangelism has not found a place more open to conversations about the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ or to the distribution of Christian books and gospel tracts. The literature is usually received well, some people ask for extra copies to share, and in some cases they read it immediately and begin asking questions. Beyond questions about the literature itself, many Jamaicans ask biblical questions and some show real concern for their souls.
Daily Preaching and Providence on the Road
The team prayed before and during the trip that God would grant tender hearts, especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall on October 28, 2025. Despite storm damage, many people appeared to have quickly returned to normal life. Still, every day the gospel of Jesus Christ was heralded in public squares throughout the island with the call to repent and believe in the only true Savior of the world. One of the most memorable days of the trip came during the longest drive. After striking a pothole, the team suffered a blown tire and had many gospel conversations with those who stopped to help. After the tire was repaired, they continued on and experienced a tremendous afternoon of preaching and witnessing. On the return trip they had a second blown tire, which opened up still more conversations about what it means to be a Christian and to be saved by the Lord Jesus Christ.
Fruit, Prayer, and Looking Ahead
During the outreach, the one-to-one conversations were too many to count. Tens of thousands heard the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. People asked for prayer, some expressed a desire to be saved, and the saints were greatly encouraged. All of the literature was given away, including more than 17,000 tracts and 115 Bibles. Please join Cross Country Evangelism in praying that the Holy Spirit would move upon the hearts of the Jamaican people, bring salvation, reap a great harvest across the island, and grant the team another opportunity to return in January 2027.
2 Corinthians 4:1-7
Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
